ABOUT

What defines the All-American sound? From jazz and blues to spirituals and classical traditions, hear it evolve with conductor Anthony Parnther, a master of many genres. Pianist David Kaplan brings his "striking imagination and creativity" (The New York Times) to Copland’s jazz-inspired Piano Concerto.

  • Anthony Parnther, conductor of award-winning soundtracks for Black Panther, The Mandalorian, Encanto, and more, brings his background in film to unique interpretations of American music.

  • David Kaplan, an American piano soloist and chamber musician, is on the faculty of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music with BSO Principal Tuba Aubrey Foard. The Copland Piano Concerto that he will be performing is often likened to George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.

  • This is one of two programs that celebrate the 125th anniversary of Aaron Copland's birth in the 2025-26 season. The second concert features Appalachian Spring on April 16-19, 2026.
