ABOUT

Four French composers draw inspiration from distant lands for a musical voyage with audience-favorite conductor Jun Märkl. Stewart Goodyear's fingers dance across the keyboard with sparkling brilliance in Saint-Saëns’ "Egyptian" Piano Concerto, while Ravel’s hypnotic Boléro makes its famous crescendo.

  • Stewart Goodyear, proclaimed a "phenomenon" by the Los Angeles Times, gained fame for performing all of Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas in a single day.

  • Camille Saint-Saëns' evocative Piano Concerto No. 5, "Egyptian," combines influences from French, Egyptian, Javanese, and Middle Eastern music.

  • Maurice Ravel's Boléro is one of the composer's most famed works, making frequent appearances in pop culture and concert spaces alike. It briefly placed Ravel as a best-selling classical composer after the 1979 romantic comedy, 10, featured it prominently (40 years after his death).
