ABOUT
Four French composers draw inspiration from distant lands for a musical voyage with audience-favorite conductor Jun Märkl. Stewart Goodyear's fingers dance across the keyboard with sparkling brilliance in Saint-Saëns’ "Egyptian" Piano Concerto, while Ravel’s hypnotic Boléro makes its famous crescendo.
Stewart Goodyear, proclaimed a "phenomenon" by the Los Angeles Times, gained fame for performing all of Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas in a single day.
Camille Saint-Saëns' evocative Piano Concerto No. 5, "Egyptian," combines influences from French, Egyptian, Javanese, and Middle Eastern music.
Maurice Ravel's Boléro is one of the composer's most famed works, making frequent appearances in pop culture and concert spaces alike. It briefly placed Ravel as a best-selling classical composer after the 1979 romantic comedy, 10, featured it prominently (40 years after his death).
